Event Details

During this 350th anniversary of the expedition of Louis Jolliet and Father Jacques Marquette, through Wisconsin and down the Mississippi River, dramatically affected the lives of both those coming to America and those already here.  It's an exciting story of exploration, but also of encounter.  Louis Jolliet: A Solid Path Through Water will offer a connection both to our past and to some of the questions which still confront us.  James Healy is presenting Louis Jolliet as the man he was: a thoughtful man of his times, both daring and planful.

_______

James Healy has lived most of his life in Joliet, Illinois, for 30 years in the Marquette Gardens area.  In his youth he was a volunteer with the Joliet Explorers, a minor league football team, whose mascot was a French fur trader named "Louie".  On every trip to the library he would pass a statue of "Louis Joliet".   Over the years Jim Healy has researched and studied Louis Jolliet to create a first person interpretation of this 17th century French explorer.
