Program Description

Event Details

In 1988, Matt Welter was a concession employee in Yellowstone National Park at the Old Faithful Village. Fresh out of college, when off work he was often dressed in black and wandered the geyser basin in the moonlight wearing a long black cloak reading Edgar Allan Poe and Sylvia Plath.

Hear his tales of bats, owls, spiders, talking ravens, a séance, a ghost bear, Bigfoot, hitchhiking, full moons, rangers, firefighters, punk rock, vampires, smoke and the biggest fire in Yellowstone’s history, all of which occurred almost 40 years ago. These first-hand accounts are stories that the news did not pick up and are filled with drama, romance and dark humor.
