Event Details
On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will be observable around midday along a path spanning the U.S. from Texas to Maine. In Green Bay, the eclipse will be partial but not total, with the Sun at most about 85% eclipsed -- far too bright to look at without "eclipse glasses."
Dr. Brian T. Welsch, Associate Professor of Physics at UW-Green Bay, will discuss how the relative positions of the Earth, Sun, and Moon determine how frequently eclipses occur, safe viewing practices, things you can expect to see whether near Green Bay or in the path of totality, and what solar scientists are hoping to learn from the total eclipse.
A limited number of eclipse viewers and glasses will be available for attendees on a first come, first serve basis.
